GAIL (India) Limited is India's largest state-owned natural gas processing and distribution company. It operates in various segments including natural gas transmission, marketing, petrochemicals, LPG, and liquid hydrocarbons. GAIL owns and operates over 16,000 kilometers of natural gas pipelines across India. The company is involved in sourcing and trading natural gas, manufacturing LPG and petrochemicals, and distributing natural gas through pipelines. GAIL has expanded into city gas distribution projects and is exploring renewable energy sectors like solar, wind, and biofuel. The Government of India holds 51.52% of the company's equity as of March 31, 2023. GAIL has subsidiaries and joint ventures in India and abroad, including interests in LNG terminals, exploration blocks, and international gas trading.
