General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re) is the leader in the Indian reinsurance market, providing reinsurance services across various business lines including property, motor, agriculture, marine, engineering, aviation, health, and liability. It operates internationally with offices in London, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, and Moscow. GIC Re was incorporated in 1972 and converted to a public limited company in 2016. It is registered with IRDAI for reinsurance business. The company was listed on the stock exchange in 2017 through an IPO, reducing government ownership to 85.78%. GIC Re manages the Terrorism Insurance Pool, the FAIR NATCAT Reinsurance Pool, and co-launched the India Nuclear Insurance Pool. It has subsidiaries in Bhutan, South Africa, and Russia. The company provides reinsurance support to both general and life insurance companies in India and internationally.
